Tirupati: The parents have to keep track of their children to prevent them from falling victim to the criminal abuses, said Tirupati Urban SP R Jayalakshmi while addressing an awareness meeting organised on the occasion of ‘World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse’ here on Saturday.

The SP said that the parents have more responsibility in sensitising the children to prevent their abuse be it by known persons like relatives, friends or criminal elements at places like schools. “They should make the child know the difference between a good touch and bad,” she said adding that everyone should come forward to check crimes against children.

Jayalakshmi also stressed on creating awareness on child rights and on the government special initiatives like child helpline 1098 functioning round-the-clock to reach out the children in distress. Marking the occasion, a big rally was held by various school children in the city which culminated in the awareness meeting at Mahati auditorium.

The message oriented cultural programmes staged on the occasion on safeguarding the rights of children, the punishments for child abuses and protecting them from abuses was the highlight of the event. Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam Registrar Vijayalakshmi and others took part.
