Kurnool (Kodumur): The leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge criticised the BJP-led NDA government for unplanned demonetisation of currency. The Centre’s unscientific decision has created uncertainty among the middle class. He participated in Rythu Maha Sabha organised at Kodumur on Saturday marking the centenary birth celebrations of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Apart from Kharge, APCC President N Raghuveera Reddy, Vice-President N Tulasi Reddy and former Union Minister Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy have addressed the gathering after garlanding the statue of Indira Gandhi. Prior to the meeting, a huge rally with bullock carts, tractors and bike was taken out from the entrance of Kodmur to the meeting venue. Kharge alleged that the Modi government had abolished big notes after leaking information to their party leaders.

He expressed anguish that common people are unable to buy essential commodities with shortage of currency. “We are not against currency demonetisation but would have implemented in a scientific way without affecting the interests of common man,” he stated. The Congress leader slammed the TDP government for declaring Kodumur mandal as drought-hit instead of helping the farmers by providing water to the withering crops.
