Bhimavaram: Andhra Pradesh Government Special Secretary and APSSDC Skill Development Entrepreneurship Innovation Centre secretary Ghanta Subba Rao advised engineering colleges to set up skill development centres in their colleges for the benefit of their students. He was speaking at the inauguration of a six-day training programme for engineering lecturers at SRKR Engineering College, Bhimavaram, on Monday. Subba Rao said that following the bifurcation of the State, it was decided to set up skill development centres across the State with the cooperation of various software companies.

He said that industries were looking for skilled workers and asked engineering colleges to give preference to skill development. He said teaching material should be updated accordingly for this purpose. Dr T Sri Lakshmi, head of APSSDC Learning and Development, said that 101 skill developments centres have been established at 101 engineering colleges in the State till date.

She stated that skill development programmes would be imparted online to students from the first year of engineering onwards. Professor T Srinivasula Reddy, Head of Engineering Division APSSDC and S Vikaruddin, expert from IBM addressed the lecturers. College chairman Gokaraju Murali Gangaraju, director SV Rangaraju, vice-principal KVSN Raju, IBM experts Kulkarni and Abraham and others participated.
