Tirupati: Urban police embarked on digitalisation of the details of the auto-rickshaws including owners and drivers as part of enhancing safety and security in the pilgrim city. Accordingly, an awareness meet held here on Monday for the auto-rickshaw drivers on the novel concept aimed at the safety of passengers and also help the drivers in distress.
Addressing the gathering, Tirupati Urban SP R Jayalakshmi said that every auto-rickshaw plying in the city has to display the digitalised identity card (ID) of owner with OR code and also the unique code of the owner.
The passengers having Android mobile can take the image of the OR code and those not having Android mobile or no mobile can note down the unique code of the owner in the ID card displayed on the right side of the vehicle for informing the police to get help in case of any danger they suspect while travelling in the auto or to get back the valuables they left behind in the auto, the SP explained. The SP said that as the digitalised ID card contain the details of driver including blood group, his family and address, to enable the police contact in case of any mishap to the family of the auto driver and also extend swift medical aid to the driver.
Jayalakshmi said that two police sub-control rooms at Leela Mahal area and Srinivasam TTD pilgrim amenity complex in the city were designated as digitalisation centres to extend the required guidance and assistance to the drivers for digitalisation of both owners and drivers.
She said the auto-rickshaw owners were directed to engage only the drivers carrying digitalised ID cards which she said would go a long way in ensuring safety and security to people more so the visiting pilgrims. DSPs Ramana Kumar (Traffic), Konda Reddy (Crimes) and about 600 auto-rickshaw drivers were present.
