Pithapuram: Revenue department has served attachment orders to the brick kiln owners throughout the district after they failed to pay the one-time conversion charges to the department. They have already notices to pay the conversion charges earlier.

The brick kiln owners owe Rs 48 lakh to the Revenue department in Pithapuram mandal alone. The Revenue department collects one-time conversion from the brick kiln owners for establishing kilns in the agriculture land, for using the earth in the field for making bricks and for transporting the earth from the field.

However, the brick kiln owners throughout the district have not paying the conversion charges for the last twenty years. The officials served notices once in 2008 demanding payment of conversion charges. But the officials failed to recover the amounts.

RDO B R Ambedkar told The Hans India that they had served notices to all other brick kiln owners in Kakinada division. He said that the attachments notices would be served and notice boards would be arranged at the kilns. The sale of bricks would be stopped altogether, he added.

After Machavaram mandal, Pithapuram has the largest number of brick kilns—58 in all—in the district. They owe Rs 48 lakh as per the calculation in 2008. It would be further revised this year apart from penalty.

Tahsildar B Suguna issued notices to the kiln owners. He instructed the revenue inspectors to stop sale of bricks and attach the kilns.
