Kakinada: Pithapuram TDP MLA in East Godavari SVSN Varma said that the personal interests of leader of opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is the main reason for opposing Divis Pharma in Tondangi mandal in the district.
Varma who is a close aide of Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu disclosed the reasons behind YSRC chief’s stance, at a media briefing in TDP district office here on Thursday.
He said that Jagan’s close associate Vijayasai Reddy is a sleeping partner in Aurabindo Pharma owned by his kin in Vizag district which also makes similar combination of drugs as Divis Pharma. If Divis establishes its unit at Danavaipeta, Pampadi Peta and Kothapakalu suburbs in Tondangi mandal the same will pose a threat to the kin of Vijayasai Reddy, he said. Incidentally, Yanamala Ramakrisjnudu’s cousin Yanamala Krishnudu is TDP, Tuni Assembly constituency in-charge. It is learnt that Krishnudu is very keen to establish Divis Pharma in Tondangi mandal which falls under Tuni Assembly segment represented by Finance Minister for six successive terms from 1983 to 2004.
In this connection, Varma clarified that Divis Phama will opt for construction of affluent treatment plant first before constructing main unit. He allayed fears of locals on pollution threat in the area caused to pharma units. “These are mere apprehensions he said.
To a question on possible effects on Aqua culture in the area as he Aqua unit representatives approached National Green Tribunal of New Delhi, Varma said that the site of the plant is about four kms away from Aqua culture and ruled out any threat to people.
He also said that the TD government wants rapid industrialisation to provide employment to youth and said that proposed unit will provide jobs to 10,000 educated youth in the form of direct and indirect employment. Party leaders Nunna Dorababu, G Suryanarayaana , Gokada Rambabu and others were present.
