Kakinada: The East Godavari TDP unit which is headless for more than a year is likely to choose the new incumbent very shortly after the completion of ongoing membership drive by November 30. The post fell vacant following the sudden demise of Parvata Sri Satyaanrayana Murty alias Chittibabu about one year ago.

The TDP has been continuing the tradition and practice of appointing leaders from Kapu social section since the inception of the party in 1982 with Makineedi Gandhi and later Mogali Venkateswara Rao . Later, former minister Chikkla Ramachandra Rao , Nimmakayala Chinarajappa , Jyotula Nehru continued as party district unit presidents .

Of these Chinarajappa held the post for more than a decade. Chittibabu who lost the election in 2014 from Prathipadu was appointed as district party chief as Chinarajapppa was inducted into State cabinet. Now with the party gearing up for next polls in 2019, so selecting and electing new incumbent is significant. Three senior leaders are in the forefront for the district chief post.

These are Gangumalla Satyanrayana Murty a senior party leader associated with Kadiyam nurseries is said to be in the fore front . It is said that he has the blessings of Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishndu. It is also said to be non- controversial.

Of the remaining Yerra Venugopala Rayudu presently holding the post of Kapu Corporation director . A law graduate he is assorted with TDP for about three decades said to have support of majority of TD MLAs and the MPSs in the district.

The third aspirant is East Godavari ZP chairperson and party state secretary Namana Rambabu . It is said that the party leadership is inclined to have his services as he hails from politically nerve Konaseema area in the district .

Besides these names, Polavaram ZPTC member Perabattula Rajasekher and former minister and five term MLA., Chilkkala Ramachandera Rao are also making rounds. Venugopal is of the opinion that the decision of the party not to consider MLAs,MLCs and MPs for the coveted post, so he stands a better chance.

Both Perabattula and Chikkala are of the opinion that if the party offers the post they will accept otherwise will not opt for canvassing With the enrollment of membership to be completed by the end of this month , hectic activity is expected to begin to choose the new incumbent.
