Ongole: All police personnel should learn to use technology and update their knowledge with time, said K Venkateswara Rao the Director of Enforcement, Prohibition and Excise department.
He was the chief guest at the passing out ceremony of 206 constables of Enforcement, Prohibition & Excise department, trained in Police Training College here on Friday.
The State government recruited about 2,000 constables for service in Prohibition and Excise department in 2013. But due to the uncertainty in the State and following bifurcation, they were not trained but given duties.
In August this year, the government decided to train the 1,200 constable allocated to Andhra Pradesh in two phases at the four police training colleges in State at Ongole, Tirupati, Anantapur and Vizianagaram.
The training for 206 constables began on August 29 and was completed on November 25. Of these constables, 39 were post- graduates, 90 were graduates, 21 B.Ed. graduates and 31 completed B.Tech but only 25 completed Intermediate, the minimum required educational qualification.
The trained constables were divided into six troupes for the parade led by the all-rounder in the batch, D Siva Prasad, as parade commandant.
Venkateswara Rao said, “Most of the candidates selected for the constable posts are over qualified. But we are happy we could use your knowledge in the best possible way.
There are about 600 existing vacancies in the department now and the number will be increasing due to the staff division after ifurcation and expansion of distilleries in the State.
With them, you could get promotions easily depending on the performance. As the police also should be technologically strong these days, the Excise department will use your knowledge in computers and technology in preparation of evidence for better conviction rate.”
The Director said he heard that the training at Ongole police training college was best and witnessed it in their performance of parade. He suggested them to form a best contingency team to participate in the 2017 Republic Day parade, for the first time on behalf of Prohibition and Excise department.
District SP Dr C M Trivikrama Varma asked the constables to update their technical knowledge from time to time so that it can be used to collect fool-proof evidence. He also told them to maintain the physical fitness all throughout their career for the health and best performance.
College principal B Chand Naik said, “The police recruitment school was started in Kurichedu in 1983 and moved to Ongole in 1990. It was upgraded as Police Training College in 1993 and has been training the police personnel ever since.
The dedicated staff here are competent enough in indoor and outdoor training and the students of this college will survive all situations.”The Director of Prohibition and Excise said that the newly promoted SIs would be sent for training from November 29 tothe PTCs in the State.
