Srikakulam: The district administration has decided to start 148 purchasing centres this year to procure kharif paddy. Farmers can sell their produce at the Paddy Procurement Centres (PPC) which would be monitored by the Civil Supplies department.

The Agriculture and Statistics department has estimated this year’s yield at around 13.05 lakh metric tonnes. Paddy crop was cultivated in an extent of 5.70 lakh acres across the district and climatic conditions were also favourable this year. Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS), District Cooperative Marketing Society (DCMS), Marketing department, Girijana Cooperative Corporation (GCC) and self-help groups (SHGs) will purchase paddy through the 148 centres across the district from December 2 till February 2017, said Joint Collector KVN Chakradhara Babu. “This time, we are recording complete details of all farmers including their bank account and contact numbers. After finishing this process, we will issue certificates to them and payments will be made in a transparent manner,” said Srikakulam revenue divisional officer Balivada Dayanidhi.
