Vijayawada: The Joint Police Commissioner of Vijayawada city P Hari Kumar said that police, people and educational institutions should work together and create awareness on road safety for decreasing the number of accidents.

It is impossible for the police department to achieve this objective without the support of the people, he said. He was speaking at a Road Safety Awareness’ programme organised jointly by Vijayawada city police and the District Transport department at Swapna Kalyana Mandapam in Nunna near on Saturday.

Hari Kumar said that 1.50 lakh people died every year across the globe due to road accidents and that awareness on road safety rules was the only solution. Andhra Loyola College students performed skits on the occasion on road safety. Nearly one thousand school and college students attended the programme.

Deputy Transport Commissioner (DTC) E Meera Prasad, Traffic DCP Tata Kranthi Rana, Law and Order DCP G Pala Raju, North Zone ACP Sravani, Traffic ACP Sravan Kumar, Nunna Rural Inspector Sahera, Nunan Sarpanch Karre Vijay Kumar and local advocate DV Ramana Reddy participated.
