Visakhapatnam: The three-day State level under-14 inter-district hand ball tournament for boys and girls began here at the Model ZP High School, Chandrampalem on Saturday in which a total of 416 boys and girls are participating from all the 13 districts across the State.

ZP Chairperson Lalam Bhavani and Collector Praveen Kumar hoisted the national flag and released balloons to mark the inauguration of the tourney. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector informed that the State government had included sports and games as a part of academic curriculum and those who excel at sports will have ample job opportunities.

He appealed to the parents and teachers to encourage the students to participate in sports and games and added that by visiting new areas and cities for participating in competitions, the children could learn many new things. Lalam Bhavani said the children would get a special recognition if they excel at sports.

District Educational Officer M V Krishna Reddy said that a State level hand ball team would be selected during the three-day tourney which would participate in the national level competition to be held in Durg district, Chhattisgarh from December 4 to 8. State Hand Ball Tourney Observer Shekhar and Deputy DEO Nagamani were also present.
