Rajamahendravaram: Customs and Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a person from Chennai and seized Rs.50 lakh in spiked notes, here on Saturday.

GRP DSP B. Lakshminarayana said that acting on a tip off the GRP personnel along with customs officials went to Godavari Railway Station, where they saw, Mathi Alagan moving suspiciously. “Upon taking him into custody and checking his belongings, we found 50 bundles of Rs 1,000 notes in a bag,” he informed.

The GRP DSP said that Alagan was working with New Tech Associates in Chennai. “One Nagi Reddy, who is heading the firm, asked Alagan to hand over the bag to a person named Satyanarayana in Rajamahendravaram,” he added.

Stating that the GRP would continue raids in trains, Lakshminarayana said that they have brought the matter to the notice of Income Tax department.
