Visakhapatnam: Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu appealed to all sections of society to switch over to the digital banking.

Terming demonetisation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Dharma Yuddham’ to weed out black money, he called upon public to support the cause.

He launched e-PoS machines at GVMC Soukaryam Centre, here on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister took strong exception to the remark of ‘Open looting of public’ made by the former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh while speaking about aftermath of demonetisation of high valued currency notes.

Referring to Dr Singh’s remark of consulting political parties like Congress before spiking Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, Venkaiah asserted that they need not consult parties like Congress which was deeply involved in scams like 2G Spectrum, Common Wealth Games and coal. He demanded the Congress to take back such remarks.

Pointing out that hoarding black money is like a cancer and affects the development of the country, he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi swung into action to treat the disease.

He advised that all other municipal corporations and municipalities in the State should also follow the suit of GVMC in providing e-PoS machines to ensure cashless transactions. Later, he released the pamphlets to bring awareness on making cashless transactions.

MPs Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao and K Hari Babu, MLAs Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar, municipal commissioner M Harinarayanan, additional commissioners G V V S Murty, S S Varma and N Mohan Rao, UCD project director D Srinivas and IDBI bank officials were present.
