Ongole: The Aakrosh Diwas, a day of protests against the demonetisation of high denomination notes failed to see much participation from the public in Prakasam district.

The rank and file of Congress, YSRCP and Left parties took to the streets in Ongole, Chirala, Kandukur, Darsi on Monday, to protest against the decision of Union government demonetising Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. The CPI ML and Prajanatya Mandali staged a demonstration in front of collectorate in Ongole, while the other parties organised rallies. They demanded that the Central government should continue the old notes until proper alternative arrangements were made.

Poonati Anjaneyulu, secretary of CPM for Prakasam district said, “Demonetisation is not the way to eradicate black money. Cancelling the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes is nothing but attack on public. The government should allow the public to use the high denomination currency until alternative arrangements were made.” CPI Ongole town secretary Prakasa Rao lashed out at the Prime Minister for his failure to bring back the black money stashed in Swiss accounts.

“He wrote off the loans taken by corporate companies and has no courage to put the list of black money hoarders in public. He is trying to help the corporate companies by beating black and blue the local merchants,” he charged Gurrala Raj Vimal, youth congress leader in Prakasam district stated that the Union government took the decision with making proper arrangements for the smooth
transaction.
