Vijayawada: District Collector Babu A on Monday asked the officials to ensure transforming atleast three villages in a mandal as cashless payment villages. He insisted that the villages should be equipped with sophisticated technology and people should cultivate the habit of making cashless transactions at the earliest.

Collector wanted district administration to take measures for introducing e-PoS machines in all business establishments in the district and also in Rythu Bazaars.

In a video conference with tahsildars and mandal development officers on Monday, collector said that a committee with above-said officials would visit three villages in a week and announce them as cashless payment villages. Officials should make proper arrangements in those villages for making cashless payments, he said. Collector also directed authorities to distribute old age, disable, widow and other type of pensions through bank accounts. Pesticides and fertiliser shops also should ensure cashless transactions, he said. He wanted to conduct awareness programmes on cashless transactions across the district.

Babu A suggested that women in self-help groups should be appointed as banking correspondents in addition to 1,960 existing banking correspondents in the district to make cashless transactions easy. He further wanted revenue and civil supplies officers to ensure that all payments must be through bank accounts in Public Distribution System and link all ration cards with bank accounts for effective implementation of online transactions in fair price shops.

He also wanted officials to make NREGS payments through bank accounts and bankers should ensure RuPay cards to all account holders and encourage netbanking and mobile banking.
