Chittoor: Alumni of government schools should contribute to their alma mater in order to improve the standards of those institutions, said S Lakshmi, Project Officer, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Chittoor. She said that District Collector Siddarth Jain had developed a strategy in this regard and certain students had already sponsored infrastructure worth Rs 4.24 crore for improving the basic amenities in various schools.

Addressing the media on Monday, Lakshmi made a fervent appeal to all students who had studied at government schools to come forward and strengthen their schools. “Every student who has studied in a government school should feel a moral responsibility on his part to lend any sort of support or assistance in any form for the development of the school. The government is committed to provide basic infrastructure for each school and is keen on developing each school on a par with corporate schools,” said Lakshmi.

She stressed that the classrooms constructed with the assistance of the old students would be named after the parents of the latter. Adopting the schools for development, conducting health camps in the schools, donating chairs , desks, black boards, note books, pens, computers , bags, carriages, and other facilities would be very useful for helping the students.

She welcomed proposals to provide tricycles for physically handicapped students and offers of scholarships for needy students and said that an appeal had already been made by the district Collector that students of the schools should take an oath to educate the girls from poor families. She said that donations can be made to Bank Account No 03431010013060, Andhra Bank Labbipet Branch, Vijayawada for the development of the schools.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would decide the priorities for distributing the funds to needful schools in the State from the pooled fund, she said and added that a diary would be released with all the particulars of the donors every year while appreciation letters would also be presented to the donors.

The Project Officer came out with a slogan ‘The school cared for our future, we care for our school’ on the occasion. District Education Officer Nageswara Rao, District Sports Authority Officer Ananda Lakshmi and others were present.
