Vizianagaram: Devotees thronged temples of Lord Shiva on the fifth and final Monday of the auspicious Karthika Masam.

Scores of devotees thronged Shiva temples and performed ‘Abhishekams’ and special poojas. The Telugu month of Karthika is considered auspicious and devotees of Lord Shiva do consider Mondays of the month more divine.

Prominent temples like Uma Maheswara Swamy temple at Punyagiri, Lingeswara Swamy temple at Gumpa and Uma Ramalingeswara Swamy temple at Vizianagaram, and ancient Dibbeswara Swamy tempe at Nellimarla witnessed huge footfalls.

Temple managements have made special arrangements like Annadanam, besides providing drinking water and arranging barricades to control the public. Large number of women devotees took holy bath in rivers to mark the occasion. Students, employees and others have taken part in Karthika Vanabhojanalu organised on the occasion.

K Vijaya a home maker said that she would like to follow norms and make it a point to visit Shiva temples during the month of Karthika.
