Kakinada: The leading opposition parties like CPM, CPI, Congress and YSRC organised rallies in Kakinada city and later staged demonstrations at East Godavari Collectorate on Monday.

They raised slogans denouncing the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes and said that it had been creating lot of inconvenience to middle-class and common man particularly daily wage earners. They also criticized the release of Rs 2,000 notes as it was serving no purpose and burnt the effigy of NDA government.

Former union minister M M Pallam Raju and senior Congress leaders participated in the dharna. The Left parties conducted roadside meetings at TTD junction.

Speaking on the occasion CPM district unit secretary D Seshu Babji, social activist D Ramona Raja criticised the Modi government for its anti-people policies. Nevertheless, banks, traders were doing their business as usual in Kakinada, barring closure of few educational institutions.
