Vijayawada: Railway track which connects Pandit Nehru Bus station, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, Wholesale vegetables and flower markets has became a death trap of sorts for thousands of people who cross it every day.

The commuters are asking for construction of either Rail-Over-Bridge or Rail Under Bridge (RUB) for the safe passage to enter the Pandit Nehru Bus station which is located to the east of the track.

Though there is no official rail crossing gate or permission, thousands of people cross the railway tracks which is considered as accident-prone zone as more than 200 trains pass via these tracks daily.

In fact, hundreds of traders and common people use the railway tracks to reach Pandit Nehru Bus Station from vegetable market which is located west side of the track. Besides, a large number of people walk over the tracks to reach I Town for various needs.

Crossing the risky railway tracks will save time and money to a large number people. However, crossing the railway tracks is very dangerous due to regular movement of express trains.

If the VMC or State government constructs either RoB or RuB it will be beneficial to a large number of people particularly the bus passengers, farmers and traders.

Hinting at lack of infrastructure, G Santosh a vegetable trader said that infrastructure facilities should be improved in the city as per the growing population and business and cut down accidents.

Vijayawada railway station is one of the busiest stations in India as more than 200 trains pass daily. Some trains stop for a while at the outer signal near the Bus station before entering the railway station.

The passengers traveling by train also have the habit of getting down the trains when it stops at the outer signal, they enter the bus station to continue their travel or go to I Town risking their lives. Since some accidents occurred in the past as some sustained serious injuries.
