Naval aerobatics show in vizag on Dec 4

​Visakhapatnam: Union Minister for Civil Aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju will be the chief guest at the Operational Demonstration of naval ships and aircraft to be held at RK Beach here on December 4, as a part of the Navy Day celebrations.

It was on December 4, 1971 that the Missile Boats of the Indian Navy carried out a deadly attack on the Karachi Harbour during the Indo-Pak War.

The Navy Day activities would begin with paying homage to service personnel who had made supreme sacrifices in various actions, including the 1971 War, at a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the War Memorial on the RK Beach by Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, along with a host of other dignitaries.

This will be followed by an Operational Display to be held in the evening, showcasing the capability and versatility of naval ships, aircraft and the special forces.

Vizagites can view from RK beach the manoeuvres by Destroyers, Corvettes, Fast attack craft and landing ships, Beach assault by Marine Commandos, Sky Diving, Close Range Anti-aircraft Firing, Band performance, Formation Anchoring and a host of other exercises.

A total of 24 ships and 17 naval aircraft are scheduled to take part in this year’s demonstration. The Op-Demo would be followed by an ‘At Home’ for invitees at the Navy House, the residence of Vice Admiral HCS Bisht.

Rehearsal for Op-Demo would be conducted on November 30 and the full dress rehearsal is scheduled for December 2. The final demonstration is being held on December 4.

Entry to witness the rehearsals and the final day event is free. During the rehearsals and on the final day, a number of aircraft would be flying over the RK Beach.

Birds flying near the display area pose a major threat to the aircraft.
