Kurnool: Rajya Sabha MP TG Venkatesh said that more and more people are contracting AIDS in the society due to lack of awareness about the disease.

Earlier, an awareness rally organised by the District Medical and Health department here on Thursday, on the occasion of World AIDS Day. Educational institutions, voluntary organisations, nursing students took part in the rally.

The MP flagged off the rally at the Collectorate which ended at the Zilla Parishad office where the participants took a pledge of striving to prevent spread of AIDS in the society.

Speaking on the occasion, Venkatesh asked officials to intensify AIDS awareness programmes as fresh HIV cases have been reported at various places in the district.

AIDS awareness rally heldAnantapur: World AIDS Day has been observed by the office of the District Medical and Health department here.A massive rally was organised to create awareness on the HIV/AIDS and to express solidarity with the AIDS victims, here on Thursday.

The rally was led by DMHO Dr Venkataramana and flagged off by MLC Dr Geyanand at Exhibition Grounds which passed through the main fares of the city and culminated at Saptagiri Circle where a human chain was formed. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Geyanand called upon the medical professionals and the youth to work for an AIDS- free society.

He advised the people to sympathise with the AIDS victims and not subject them to discrimination. He said that World AIDS Day was being observed since 1998 to express solidarity with the AIDS victims.

DMHO Venkataramana said that HIV clinical tests were being done in every government hospital and free medicines are being supplied to all patients at ART Centres. Joint Collector Syed Khaja Mohiuddin, Additional DMHO Dr Padmavathi and others were present.
