Tirupati: Awareness rallies and meetings marked World AIDS Day here on Thursday. The students of TTD SV Oriental High School and Little Angels High School took out an AIDS awareness rally which culminated in a meeting at Mahathi Auditorium in the premises of Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) premises. Addressing the students, SVIMS Director-cum-Vice Chancellor TS Ravikumar said the only way to check the dreaded AIDS which is claiming about 86,000 lives annually in India is increasing the awareness against the disease.

The AIDS patients also prone to other killer diseases like tuberculosis, cancer adding more to their woes, he said calling for sustained efforts to prevent the disease and bring down the death rate. The NSS wing of the SVU took out a rally which was flagged off by university Vice-Chancellor A Damodaram. NSS volunteers and students of various colleges participated in the rally. World AIDS Day was observed in Arogyavaram Medical Centre near Mandanapalle while the students of Government Junior College for Girls participated in a rally held in Madanapalle town.

Chittoor: City MLA D A Satyaprabha, ZP Chairperson Girvani Chandra Prakash, officials of the District Medical and Health department, voluntary organisations and students took part in an awareness rally organised here on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, Girvani gave a call to create awareness about AIDS.
