‘Alliance not a must between TDP, BJP for civic by-poll’

Chittoor: The TDP leader and in-charge Mayor P Subramanyam stated that there is no compulsion for TDP to enter into an alliance with the BJP for the by-election to fill up the vacant post of Chittoor Mayor.

Subramanyam said that the TDP has absolute majority in municipal council to win the post. Speaking to The Hans India here on Friday, Subramanyam said that the TDP district unit would propose a unanimous candidate for Mayor post. However, he said, decision of the TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu would be final in selection of the candidate. He stated that Minister Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy, in-charge Minister Narayana, MP N Sivaprasad, MLA D A Satyaprabha and ZP Chairperson Girvani Chandra Prakash would meet soon to chalk out a strategy for the ensuing municipal elections to Tirupati and by-election to Mayor post. He maintained that there is no dissidence among the party leaders in the district.

The in-charge Mayor said that a master plan would be finalised soon for beautification of the city. He admitted that transportation of drinking water through hired tankers has been stopped due to lack of funds. However, he said that water is being supplied to city residents from NTR Jalasayam. Earlier, Subramanyam visited the Chittoor Press Club and appreciated the executive body for constructing a two-storey building for Press Club besides installation of centralised air-condition facility.

Chittoor Press Club president Ramesh Babu and secretary Kaliswara Reddy have welcomed the in-charge Mayor. Subramanyam assured representatives of Press Club of extending all cooperation for the development of the club.
