Eluru: Farmers resorted to road blockade on National Highway at Anantapalli village of Nallajerla mandal in West Godavari district on Friday, in protest against the attitude of Andhra bank officials.

Farmers and customers of Andhra Bank queued at the bank branch from 6 am on Friday. Less than a couple of hours after the banking hours began; the bank staff closed the doors citing ‘No Cash’. The customers including women questioned the bank manager Shivaji on the turn of events, to which he allegedly admonished them.

Irritated with the behaviour of the staff, the farmers and customers blocked the national highway. Due to the road blockade, traffic was stranded over three kilo meters on Kovvuru and Gundugolanu route.

Anantapalli SI V Venkateswara Rao reached the spot and tried to convince the agitators to clear the traffic in vain. It was only after repeated attempts the farmers withdrew their agitation.

Speaking to The Hans India, bank manager Shivaji said that they were disbursing the available cash to the customers. “The agitation was nothing but misunderstanding,” he added.
