Amalapuram: The farmers in the district were a worried lot with the cyclone warning in Bay of Bengal, at the time they were all set to bring home the yields of kharif crops. It is estimated that 2.15 lakh acres were cultivated during this season, out of which 50 per cent of the acreage had already been harvested.

The crops in the remaining acreage are ready for harvesting. At this juncture, with the cyclone warning being issued and the climate here changing all of a sudden, the farmers are distressed. Taking advantage of the worries of the farmers, the middlemen are offering very low prices for paddy.
