Ongole: The assistant director of horticulture in Prakasam district announced that the government has selected mango crop in Prakasam district for insurance coverage. The government asked the farmers of each crop, which is cultivated more than 5,000 hectares in the district for insurance coverage through Bajaj Allianz.

There are about 8,500 hectares of mango orchards in Prakasam district. Jennamma, assistant director of horticulture said, “The farmers should pay a premium of Rs. 7,500 for the insurance coverage of Rs 1.5 lakh.

The company pays the farmer if he incurs losses due to crop loss due to excess rain or pests from December 15 to February 28 or high temperatures from January 1 to March 31 or high wind from March 1 to May 31. The farmers are urged to pay the premiums by December 15 to utilise the crop insurance.”
