Nellore: On the second day of the month, many branches welcomed the customers with no cash boards. Some were disappointed and while others staged protests in front of the bank branches demanding bank officials to issue cash to them. City residents are still facing severe difficulties to get cash from the banks even after 20 days of demonetisation announcement.

Customers expressed their ire over bank staff at Vedayapalem SBI branch on Friday when officials have displayed no cash board. Enraged customers staged a protest in front of the bank and raised slogans against the management even though staff members were repeatedly telling protestors that the RBI had supplied less cash.

Rural MLA K Sridhar Reddy intervened and spoke to bank officials. The MLA informed angry protestors that the branch manager told him that they did not receive currency on Friday. Reddy said that people were facing severe problems for getting small denomination notes and many others were unable to get even cash for essential needs.

The legislator criticised that the Central government for announcing demonetisation of currency without ensuring availability of small notes. People, who depend on salaries and pensions, were facing difficulties as the banks were displaying no cash boards in the city. In Kaluvoya mandal headquarters, customers staged a protest in front of the SBI branch demanding to issue cash from their accounts.
