Nellore: Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) Vice-Chancellor Prof V Veeraiah said the varsity campus would be shifted to the new buildings at Kakuturu shortly. He said the Executive Council (EC) met on Thursday at Acharya Nagarjuna University premises in Guntur and resolved various issues on improving conditions in the VSU.

Interacting with the media on Friday, the VC said they had decided to fill up non-teaching and other important senior positions after obtained permission from the State government. He said there are 18 non-teaching staff posts lying vacant since 2009 and senior positions like finance officer, deputy registrar and assistant registrar posts are also vacant. He said posts would be filled up soon as the EC gave approval. Veeraiah also said vacancies of outsourcing employees would be filled up soon.

He said the EC had approved salary hike for outsourcing staff and contract employees. Outsourcing staff would get the revised salary decided by the State government and contract workers will get a hike of Rs 3,000 per month with effect from this April, he explained. He informed that the VSU would appoint physical director posts either on deputation basis or on contract basis.

Veeraiah stated assistant professors working in the varsity would be promoted to the next stage considering their seniority under Career Advancement Scheme of the University Grants Commission. They would be promoted from stage 2 to stage 3, he informed.

The EC meet also decided to extend support to the varsity teachers for their research work. There are 17 teachers in the varsity, who submitted their projects without any grant. Teachers of arts category would get a support of Rs 1 lakh and science category Rs 3 lakh as startup grant. A committee would be formed and approve the grants in a systematic way, the VC said.

Veeraiah said the new buildings would be inaugurated by the Chief Minister during the first week of December as informed by the Minister Narayana. Still, works to the tune of Rs 3 crore are pending and the EC agreed to release the amount for the construction company for taking up the works and to finish them within two months.

He said they had started research admissions through executive cadre quota where there is no need for attending the screening test. Varsity Registrar Prof PR Siva Sankar was also present.
