Vijayawada: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) V Gopala Krishna on Saturday said that the department would organise Anti-Corruption Day on December 9 in the city. A week-long programme has already began from Saturday in this connection, he said.

Gopala Krishna speaking to newsmen at his office on Saturday said that ‘Corruption-Free Society – Social Justice to All’ is main motive of the department. The ACB wants to create awareness among all the people in the State to root out corruption, he said.

On the occasion of Anti-Corruption Day ACB Director RP Thakur would launch a Whatsapp number for receiving the complaints from the people on December 9 and claimed that the app would be monitored by ACB Director General.

The department will be conducting essay writing and Elocution competitions for school and college students from December 4, he said.
The ACB sleuth further said that a programme was chalked out for interaction with people to create awareness on corruption and opined that any department can’t do anything without the support of the people.

“We will elicit people’s views and ideas to eradicate corruption menace and implement appropriate suggestions” he promised. The ACB has been implementing new technology to eradicate corruption right from the field level, for that everyone should use Android phones, he suggested. For instance, if a traffic constable is seen taking bribe from someone, then anyone of the public may shoot it in his mobile and sent to Whatsapp number, he said. Then the department would take appropriate action against the said constable, he added.

DSP further said that the mindset of government official should also change, only then the corruption would be eradicated, he opined. He said that Vijayawada being the State capital 70 per cent of offices are located in and around the city and would keep a close watch to ensure a corruption-free government service, he added.

Summing up their resolve, the DSP claimed that as many as 16 cases were registered in Krishna district from January to December. He said the ACB seized Rs.14.50 crore worth of assets and registered cases on one Superintendent Engineer, two electrical ADEs and one sub registrar, he explained. ACB Inspectors Srinivas and Ventateswara Rao attended the event.
