Tirupati: The social service organisations including Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS) and Samatha Vidyalaya for Special Children here on Saturday, observed World Disabled Day. Speaking at a meeting held in RASS head office here, Andhra Bank deputy general manager Varanasi Krishnamurthy stressed on unearthing the hidden creative talents among the differently-abled for honing up their skills.

“Everyone should share the responsibility of looking after the welfare of children of special needs and the differently-abled to help them lead a dignified life instead of showing lip sympathy to the parents of these people,” he added.

RASS director Nagaraju gave a detailed account of the social service activities and the institutions run by RASS including Vikas Vihar for the children with special needs, residential special school and also for rural development.

Marking the occasion rice, blankets and hand sticks were distributed to differently-abled. The cultural programmes by the children of special needs won the appreciation of gathering. Senior tax consultant Medhavat, the parents of the children of various RASS institutions and others took part.

The World Disabled Day was also observed in Samatha Vidyalaya for Special Children in association with Lions Club. Speaking on the occasion, Vidyalaya director P Gopinath said that if hearing defects is identified early and proper treatment and training is provided to the hearing impaired and their parents, these children can become near normal like other children. Lions Club president Bhuvaneswari, secretary Chitra Mohan and others were present.
