Visakhapatnam: A separate Tribal Welfare Ministry and a Tribal Welfare Commission were first created by the NDA government giving priority for tribal welfare and development of all agency areas, said Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Faggan Singh Kulaste. He said the government would introduce the life stories of great tribal freedom fighters in school curriculum soon.
He was addressing the inaugural function of two-day State Tribal Students’ Convention held here on Saturday under the aegis of State-wing of All India Vidyardhi Parishad (ABVP). The Union Minister informed that the Central government has introduced many a welfare scheme for upliftment of tribals and their children which should be utilised properly and paid rich tributes to the tribal freedom fighters like Birsamunda, Komaram Bheem and Rani Durga Devi, he said.
Stating that the traditions and culture of tribal people are unique and assured to protect them by conducting ‘Tribal Festivals’. He praised tribal students who excelled in national sports and said their contribution to sports was very much needed to the country.
ABVP All India Saha Sanghatan Secretary Guntha Lakshman said that the ABVP along with other student organisations has been agitating for the rights of tribal students adding that already a PIL was filed in the apex court on the issues of tribal welfare hostels.
He appealed to the Union Minister for providing single teacher schools and sufficient hostels with free health and eye check-up camps in agency areas.
Lok Sabha Member K Hari Babu also spoke. Among others, chairman of reception committee R S Dora, president O Rama Murty, general secretary K Nagabushanam, AP State secretary Mallikharjuna, Vanavasi Students’ Association State Convenor Gopala Patrudu, district convenor Ganesh Kumar and Vibhagh Pramukhs Ramaiah and Simhachalam were also present. A large number of tribal students across the State attended.
