Windowpanes of a building were smashed in which bank was located at Yerraguntla when people tried to enter into the bank forcibly. At some bank branches, police brought situation under control when customers entered into heated arguments with bank staff.

According to the officials, Rs 32 crore cash was disbursed as against the requirement of Rs 110 crore. The banks need Rs 91 crore to issue for 30,050 Central and State government employees, who are working in the district.

Besides, Rs 20 crore is required to distribute for 20,000 pensioners. District Lead Bank Manager L Raghunatha Reddy admitted that banks could not distribute cash to all customers as there was no proper supply from the RBI for the last few days.

He stated that Rs 160 crore cash might reach the district by Saturday night and hoped that would meet cash requirements of people. Only 15 ATMs were dispensing the cash from the total of 300 in the district. Speaking to The Hans India, J Ramachandra Reddy of Yerramukkapalli said that he could get only one Rs 2000 note from an ATM after standing in a queue for 3 hours.

Prior to the announcement of demonetisation, according to the official sources, Rs 100 crore worth financial transactions used to take place in 304 branches belonging to 33 different banks in the district. Now, 75 per cent of transactions were hit due to currency shortage.
