Vijayawada: More than three weeks passed since the announcement of demonetisation by the Union government, the woes of the people continuing in the city to withdraw their deposited money from the banks.

More than 90 per cent ATMs in the city were closed on Sunday. People who went to the ATMs to withdraw the cash were disappointed as the ATMs were either closed or there was no money in them to withdraw. Less than 10 per cent customers were able to withdraw money on Sunday. By and large it was a disappointing Sunday for lakhs of people in the city. Customers spent more than an hour in the queue line to withdraw their money. Long queues were seen at SBH ATM in Seetarampuram on Sunday.

Due to short supply of cash, the bankers are not able to fill the cash in ATMs. Letters wrote by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to the Central government for sending cash reserves to the State has no impact in the city. K Prakash, a government employee, said: “What is the use of getting salary when there is no scope to withdraw more than Rs 2000 from ATM in a day.

Beasant Road, which is usually busy with customers on holidays, wore a deserted look on Sunday. Vegetable markets, fish markets too don’t have customers. Hotels, restaurants and eateries too lost their business due to impact of demonetisation.
