The Eastern Naval Command paid homage to the service personnel, who made supreme sacrifice in various actions including 1971 war with Pakistan, on the occasion of  the Navy Day celebrations, here on Sunday.

Visakhapatnam: The Eastern Naval Command paid homage to the service personnel, who made supreme sacrifice in various actions including 1971 war with Pakistan, on the occasion of the Navy Day celebrations, here on Sunday.

Vice-Admiral HCS Bisht, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, laid the wreath at the Navy War Memorial on the Beach Road in the morning. Wreaths were also placed by Vice-Admiral V K Namballa (retired), president Navy Foundation, District Collector Praveen Kumar, GVMC commissioner M Hari Narayanan and commissioner of police T Yoganand. They were joined by 100 NCC cadets who also paid their respects to the martyrs.

Upon his arrival, the Commander-in-Chief proceeded to the War Memorial with the wreath bearers marching in front.

The guard performed the ‘Salami Shastra’ followed by ‘Shok Shastra’ and the Commander-in-Chief placed the floral wreath. While the Bugler sounded the ‘Last Post’, a two minute silence was observed. With the guard reverting to the ‘Salami Shastra’ position, the Bugler sounded, ‘Rouse’ heralding the end of the ceremony.
