Tirupati: It was a grand finale to the Kartheeka Brahmotsavam of Sri Padmavati Ammavari Temple on Sunday with the Panchami Theertham Chakrananam at the Padma Pushkarini witnessing the convergence of thousands of devotees who had gathered to take a holy dip in the temple tank on the auspicious occasion.

Devotees were blessed by the Goddess Padmavathi procession earlier, on the four mada streets for two hours in the morning before the idols were taken to the Panchami theertham mandapam. Meanwhile the silk saree and other traditional offerings from the Srivari Temple, Tirumala also reached the Mandapam and were presented to the deity amidst chanting of Vedic hymns. The utsavam idol of Goddess Padmavathi was decorated with rare jewels from Srivari treasury like Shanku haram studded with diamonds, golden waist belt studded with diamonds along with silk offerings.

Thereafter the last ‘snapana thirumanjanam’ (celestial bath) was performed for Goddess Padmavathi and Chakrathalwar with milk, curd, honey, turmeric, sandal paste and coconut water before the commencement of Chakrasnanam (immersion of the holy disk) at the auspicious anointed muhurtam of 12.35 noon. Devotees braving the downpour reached the tank early in the morning and patiently waited for more than six hours to take a holy dip at the time of immersion of Chakrathalwar. Later, the Goddess was taken in provession on mada streets on the Tiruchi vahanam ahead of the dwajarohanam which was performed in the evening bringing an end to the nine day colorful religious festival.

The nine-day event went of peacefully sans any untoward incidents much to the relief of the TTD administration and the Police department who had made elaborate arrangements for a smooth conduct of the event. Tirupati 1400 personnel deployed by the Tirupati Urban police in addition to the security staff of the TTD kept a hawk eye’s view on proceedings during the nine days.

[Tirupati Urban SP R Jayalakshmi and Anantapur Range DIG Prabhakar Rao personally monitored the arrangements. Among those present at the event were Sri Pedda Jeeyangar, Sri Chinna Jeyangar, TTD Chairman Dr Ch Krishnamurthy, TTD EO Dr D SambasivA Rao and other officials and non-officials including TTD trust board members.
