Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham has decided will organise ‘Rythu Jata’ rallies in various districts and public meeting in Vijayawada in protest against the State government’s apathy towards the problems of farmers.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Sangham general secretary K V V Prasad said that the State government had not yet released Rs 200 crore input subsidy to paddy farmers of East and West Godavari districts.

Besides, the farmers were not paid bonus of Rs 60 that was increased by the government for a quintal of food grains.

“On other hand, the State government failed to take measures to give relief to farmers in 271 draught mandals in the State. It is least bothered over 15,000 farmers’ suicides in the State,” he said.

Farmers in Rayalaseema lost ground nut crop in thousands of acres while onion and tomato farmers were facing huge losses, Prasad said.

Farmers, who are cultivating commercial crops, including sugar cane, palmolein, subabul, eucalyptus, black gram and others were facing crisis with fall in prices, the farmers’ leader said.

He further said the Rythu Sangham would start Rythu Jata rallies from Palasa in Srikakulam district on December 10.

They will continue in Vijayanagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari and Krishna districts. A huge rally and a public meeting would also be organised in Vijayawada on December 20, he added.
