Ambedkar’s services to nation recalled

Rajamahendravaram: Dr BR Ambedkar’s Mahaparinirvan Divas was observed on Tuesday at ONGC Base complex. Speaking on the occasion, KS Ratnam, GM-Asset Manager (Officiating), ONGC said that although Dr Ambedkar was not present amongst us physically today, his ideas and vision would always remain a source of inspiration to people across the globe, especially to the oppressed classes.

Recalling Ambedkar's services to the economic development of the nation, Ratnam said that Ambedkar was primarily known for his relentless fight against the caste system. But a lesser known aspect of his work was his research on the currency issues of the nation which he had drafted in the form of ‘The problem of Rupee, its origins and solution’. Scholars opine that it was this work which had led to the creation of the Reserve Bank of India. Such was the contribution of Ambedkar to the nation, said Ratnam. He added that Ambedkar was a strong votary of public sector units in the country and that ONGC was one such beneficiary.

The programme was attended by Siri Anand, Dy Commissioner (Officiating), AP. Road Transport, East Godavari, Rajahmundry, Collectives - Association of Scientific and Technical Officers (ASTO), Petroleum Employees Union (PEU), All India SC/ST Employees Welfare Association (AISCSTEWA), All India OBC and EOBC employees Welfare Association, Women's Professional development body and Women's Development Forum.
