Visakhapatnam: District Fire Officer J Mohan Rao appealed to the public especially youth to join the Auxiliary Fire Force to help the needy, along with the fire brigade personnel, during natural calamities and disasters. Launching the week-long training programme for the first batch of the Auxiliary Fire Force here at the District Fire office on Tuesday, Mohan Rao said that there is every possibility for natural calamities like cyclones, earth quakes or fire mishaps as the city is nearer to the sea shore and also due to having many industries.

To face such disasters, an effective force is needed to help the needy and to prevent the loss of property by protecting themselves. Those join the force as members, will be given intensive training for a week and certificates will be issued after the training, he explained.

The DFO said that so far 200 persons enrolled themselves in the new force to which training will be given in a phase manner. Stating that participation of the youth in the district is very essential, he called upon the NCC cadets, NSS volunteers and representatives of voluntary organisations to join the Auxiliary Force to help the society. Referring to the request of many members about payment of stipend to the force members, he assured that he would inform the higher authorities. Officials of Fire Brigade and staff were also present at the launch.
