Visakhapatnam: The district needs 6,000 e-PoS machines in another15 days to carryout full-fledged cashless transactions, said Collector Praveen Kumar at a meeting with bankers and representatives of Andhra University at the Collectorate here on Tuesday.
He said after the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes were announced, the bankers installed 1,019 e-PoS machines in the district. These machines should be put into use immediately, the Collector told the bankers.
The Collector also discussed the disbursement of pensions, distribution of smaller notes in the rural areas, availability and requirement of e-PoS machines and availability of cash with the bankers and the Andhra University authorities.
He told each student from 292 affiliated colleges of Andhra University should adopt one village each in 39 mandals to create awareness and train the villagers. The students should also visit some areas in GVMC limits also, the Collector said.
Rallies and awareness camps should be held in all the villages to campaign for cashless transactions. District Lead Bank manager L Sarababu and cashless transaction coordinating officer D Rammohan and university officials were present in the meeting.
In another meeting, the Collector said all the works pertaining to special development programme and employment guarantee schemes should be completed at the earliest.
He said during the last three financial years an amount of Rs 200 crore was released by the government and the lat installment of Rs 50 crore would be released soon. He told the officials to complete Anganwadi buildings, 150 km of concrete roads and cremation grounds by end of this month. He asked the officials to submit a report on the delay of works.
Project director of DWMA K Kalyan Chakravarthy, Additional Joint Collector DV Reddy, panchayat raj superintending engineer M Gajendra and senior engineers were present.
