Cyclonic storm Vardah over southeast Bay of Bengal remained practically stationary during last three hours and lay centred over southeast Bay of Bengal about 1,040 km east-southeast of Visakhapatnam, 1,135 km east-southeast of Machilipatnam, 360 km northwest of Car Nicobar and 240 km west-southwest of Port Blair.
Visakhapatnam: Cyclonic storm Vardah over southeast Bay of Bengal remained practically stationary during last three hours and lay centred over southeast Bay of Bengal about 1,040 km east-southeast of Visakhapatnam, 1,135 km east-southeast of Machilipatnam, 360 km northwest of Car Nicobar and 240 km west-southwest of Port Blair.
The system is very likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during next 24 hours. It is very likely to move nearly northwards for some more time.
Thereafter, it is very likely to move northwestwards, then west-northwestwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Kakinada around December 12. There is possibility of slight weakening of the system before landfall.
Another official from Cyclone Warning Centre said that the system might move northwest and cross near Visakhapatnam.
Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy falls over coastal Andhra Pradesh is very likely from December 11.
Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph would prevail along and off Andhra Pradesh coast during the same period.
Sea condition would be rough to very rough along and off Andhra Pradesh coast and fishermen were advised not to venture into sea during the next 24 hours and advised to return on December 10.
All the ports in the State were asked to hoist Distant Cautionary Signal No 2.
