Narasapur: Sub Collector Sumith Kumar Gandhi has asked the people in coastal areas to be on high alert following reports that a cyclonic storm Vardah had formed in Bay of Bengal.

In the wake of the cyclone warning, the Sub-Collector toured Pedmainavani Lanka, Chinamainavani Lanka, Biyyapu Tippa, and Vemuladeevi (West), Vemuladeevi (East) seashore villages on Thursday and asked the people to shift to safer locations.

He told fishermen not to venture into the sea. With a forecast issued for heavy rains, he advised farmers to shift their produce from the fields to paddy purchase centres or to the AMC godowns.

He directed officials to keep all material available to meet any eventuality and also keep ready the government buildings to shift the people in low lying areas people to those buildings besides cyclone shelters.

Earlier he conducted review at the Sub-Collector office in Narsapur on the steps to be taken up during cyclone. He directed the officials to tour the villages and creates awareness among the people to shift to safer places following the cyclone warning.

He directed them to inform the fishermen to shift their nets, boats and other equipment to safe places. He said control rooms should be opened in Mandal Tahsildar offices and Sub collector office.

Joint Director of Agriculture Y Sailakshmeswari, Tahsildars G Suryanarayana Reddy, Dasraju, Sriada Haranath, G Ratamani and others participated in the review meeting.
