Kakinada: The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is believed to be seriously concerned at the struggle for political supremacy in Prathipadu Assembly segment, considered to be the political nerve centre of the district.

The TDP had won 13 out of 19 assembly seats in the 2014 polls. MLA SVSN Varma from Pithapuram who had won as an independent joined the TDP along with two MLAs Varupula Subba Rao and Jyotula Nehru from the YSRCP which increased the party’s tally to 16.The rise in tally is said to have precipitated internal squabbles for supremacy especially in Prathipadu constituency.

The constituency has its own significance as several bigwigs like Mudragada Padmanabham, Parvata Subba Rao and Parvata Chittibabu had been elected from here in the past.

With sitting MLA Varupula Subba Rao defecting to the TDP from the YSRCP, political alignments in the region have changed bringing out internal squabbles to the fore.

Subba Rao, Kakinada MP Thota Venkata Narasimham under whose parliamentary constituency Prathipadu falls and DCCB chairman Varupula Raja are making frantic efforts to improve their sway in the constituency.

Caught in this game of political upmanship are various mandal and constituency level leaders and cadre of the party who are confused and apprehensive of ruffling feathers.

Speaking to The Hans India, MLA Varupula Subba Rao said that he had no political enmity with any body. He said that his intention was to make the leaders who had been sailing with him for decades happy by entrusting responsible positions to them in TDP. “In this aspect, I am trying my best,” said the MLA.
