Cyclone \'Vardah\' is gaining strength and is likely to become severe as it inches closer to Andhra Pradesh coast. The India Met Department (IMD) on Saturday morning located the system closest to the coast of Visakhapatnam and Machilipatnam.

Cyclone 'Vardah' is gaining strength and is likely to become severe as it inches closer to Andhra Pradesh coast. The India Met Department (IMD) on Saturday morning located the system closest to the coast of Visakhapatnam and Machilipatnam.

It is likely to intensify further during the next 24 hours and maintain its peak up to Sunday evening following which the system might gradually weaken while moving towards the Andhra Pradesh coast.

Moderate rainfall has been forecast at several places across coastal Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. Fisherman have been advised not to venture into sea along the coast from Saturday as the sea conditions are likely to be rough along the Andhra Pradesh coast.

An alert has been issued to the Chief Secretaries of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Odisha and Bengal regarding cyclone Vardah.
