​Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to be ready to prevent human and property loss during landfall of Vardah cyclone. He said steps should be taken to protect the standing crops and prevent fishermen from venturing into sea.

Addressing a teleconference with officials on Saturday, the Chief Minister told the officials to be ready to restore power supply and transport by removing trees on roads in case of cyclone.

Drains should be desilted to prevent inundation of fields and rain-harvesting measures to be taken up to improve groundwater.

Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa and Anantapuram districts are likely to receive heavy rain from December 12 and the cyclone is likely to cross the coast near Sriharikota in Nellore district during midnight of December 12, the officials informed the Chief Minister.
