Ongole: The Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P Narayana announced that the State government is going to construct 1.20lakh houses with quality material and features in coming 18 months.

The Minister visited the lands shortlisted for construction of housing colony at Chintala and Kurnool road in Ongole on Saturday with the local MLA Damacharla Janardhan, municipal commissioner Sankranti Venkata Krishna and others.

He finalised the 10-acre land at Kurnool road and said, “It is the dream of the Chief Minister to build 1.20 lakh houses to the financially poor families in the State.

These houses would be built with a budget from Rs 6 to 6.5 lakh and provided with drinking water, electricity and even high quality floor tiles and the colony would be provided school, park, community hall and a PHC.

In the housing scheme, about 5,069 houses were sanctioned for the district. In the 2, 000 houses allotted for Ongole, 1,500 houses would be built in G+1 model. About 1,020 houses would be built in Markapuram, 1,437 in Kandukur, 612 in Chirala.”

Narayana said that as the population of SCs in Prakasam and Nellore districts is high, special grants under SC/ ST sub plan is released to the district.

He said that Rs. 60crores were released for development activities in SC colonies in Ongole and another Rs. 22crore were released for development of roads in them.

The MLA Janardhan thanked the minister for his interest and extended support for the development works in Ongole and making the town as a beautiful living place.
