Vizianagaram: Yoga guru Ramdev Baba’s Pantanjali group will be setting up a food park in the district.

This is in line with the assurances given by the TDP during 2014 assembly elections that it would establish a food park in every district.

The Patanjali group had approached the government and appealed to allot land to set up a unit. Following the proposal, the government decided to allot 177 acres of land at Chinaravupalli village in Kothavalasa mandal.

Fast tracking the proposal, the Revenue department has already assessed the compensation to be given to the farmers and sent a comprehensive report to the government.

Even though the land identified, which is to be transferred to APIIC, belongs to government most of it was allotted to poor locals, some time back.

Now the government is going to acquire the lands from the farmers by paying compensation around Rs.8 lakh per acre.

Cashew and mango are grown in the identified land and the Horticulture department is assigned to assess the loss to the farmers.

Recently, Balakrishna a close aid of Baba Ram Dev and CEO of Patanjali group visited the spot along with joint collector Srikesh Balaji, RDO Srinivasa Murthy and others and expressed his interest to set up a food park.

The local Revenue staff sent a report to government that they need around Rs.12.60 crore to pay compensation to farmers.

The amount will be deposited in the accounts of the farmers, who are going to lose their lands.

The officials also held a meeting with the farmers and convinced them to hand over the lands. Kothavalasa is near to Vizag and has good road and rail connectivity.

Speaking to The Hans India, RDO Srinivasa Murthy said that the representative of Patanjali group visited the spot and expressed interest to take the land. “We have asked them to provide employment to locals in the proposed project,” he said.
