Kakinada: People of Konaseema region are proud of Rajakumar Wodeyar a sculptor par excellence making Kothapeta as their home town and sculpting bronze statues of eminent leaders putting his creativity to its best use. Wodeyar, a Kannadiga, migrated to the Konaseema region from Mysore. He is practicing the art of sculpting which generations of his forefathers did.

If one has a sculpting assignment, Woodeyar is the first choice. Whether it be sculpture of Gods or leaders, it has to be Woodeyar. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had placed an order with Woodeyar for a full-sized MGR statue to get it installed in MGR Research University. Later she died. Following her death, Wodeyar was busy making her image.

As it was decided to install statues of MGR and Jayalalithaa by February 24, Wodeyar prepared a prototype image of Jayalalithaa within six hours to the delight of everyone. Wodeyars share a legacy in sculpting images of national and international repute. So far Rajkumar designed at least 4,000 statues. Wodeyar is an expert in paying attention to the minute details of personalities.

He pursued eight-year course in sculpting at Viswa Bharati University. He received a number of honours and felicitations in recognition to his work. The Government of Andhra Pradesh appointed Wodeyar as the state sculptor. Wodeyar got orders to make the images of former Chief Minister NT RamaRao and revolutionary leader Alluri Sitaramaraju to be installed in the Parliament House.
