Swastya Vidya Vahini a publicity stunt: Cong

Vijayawada: AP Congress Committee (APCC) doctor’s cell State co-chairman Dr K Radhakrishna termed the State government’s new scheme ‘Swastya Vidya Vahini’ as direction-less publicity stunt.

In a statement released here on Monday, Radhakrishna said that Minister for Health Kamineni Srinivas wants PG Medical students to visit villages to provide medical care to rural people under the scheme.

He alleged that the government has failed in providing primary health in villages and basic amenities in government hospitals.

He said the government was now resorting to involve medical students to cover its failures.

Radhakrishna alleged that the government was trying to divert money from National Rural Health Scheme in the name of ‘Swastya Vidya Vahini’ scheme.

“Government did not even under take a pilot study, before launching a scheme that has huge staff and money,” he said.

He added that instead of appointing doctors where needed, government was trying to project medical students in the place of regular doctors to treat people’s ailments, which could be dangerous.

He demanded the government to strengthen Primary Health Centre in villages and fill all the vacancies, including doctors and paramedical staff.
