Tirupati: CPM launched a week long `Praja Chaitanya Yatra (PCY)’ campaign to draw the attention of the authorities to the problems being faced by the people in various localities, especially in the newly merged panchayats in the municipal corporation and in the 50-odd slums in the pilgrim city, on Wednesday.
Speaking after formally launching the campaign in BTR colony here on Wednesday, CPM district secretary K Kumar Reddy criticized the municipal and revenue authorities for turning a blind eye to the severe problems plaguing the people in various localities of the city. “Hundreds of applications for allotment of house sites, sanction of ration cards, pensions submitted by eligible poor are pending for years while the basic amenities like roads, sanitations, drain maintenance etc are in deplorable condition in the city particularly in the areas like BTR colony where power supply disrupted in the cyclone is yet to be fully restored. Mosquito menace has turned unbearable but the UHCs have no doctors and medicines while the grave yards remain neglected,” said Reddy.
He said that the Yatra which would be held till 20th of this month would cover all the 50 divisions to highlight the various problems of the people. After the campaign a mass picketing would be held before the sub-collector’s office on the 22nd.
A representation on the problems affecting the people in various localities would be submitted to sub-collector, said Kumar Reddy said.
CPM leaders including Tirupati Rural secretary Chandrasekhar Reddy, DYFI State vice president S Jayachandra, M Srinivasulu, Bujji and others participated in the programme.
