Amaravati: The cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chanrababu Naidu has taken decision to develop Eluru, Nellore, Ongole, Ananthapur and Kurnool as smart cities.

The development works should be speeded up under the smart cities plan. The three-hour long Andhra Pradesh cabinet meeting held at Interim Secretariat Complex at Velagapudi on Thursday decided to start the Urban Infra Development Corporation to develop Vijayawada and Guntur cities.

The cabinet has discussed cash demonetisation of big currency notes issue and problems of the people. On this occasion, the Chief Minister explained the importance of digital currency and distribution of cash.

He said that the State would get Rs 2,500 crore. The cabinet directed the officials and bankers to pay pensions under digital system. It asked the bankers to pay pensions directly at their homes for those who do not have accounts.

The State accepted the proposal to construct the city square complex at PWD grounds in Vijayawada city under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The cabinet has approved 185-km outer ring road and 98-km inner ring road after a long discussion.

The CRDA officials have submitted three model plans for the cabinet approval. Briefing the cabinet meeting details, Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said that the cabinet discussed the auction issue of AgriGold assets.

The Chief Minister had instructed that the assets should be auctioned for higher prices for benefit of the victims, he said. The cabinet unanimously made it clear that there is no chance for illegal practices in the auction.

Similarly, the government decided to take action against some other financial fraud companies soon. On the other hand, the government enhanced the salaries of 5,038 employees of the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP).

Meanwhile, the state government wrote letter to the Centre for extending deadline for cable TV digitalisation for another year. The Chief Minister requested the Centre towards relaxation when the AP Fibre Grid project is under process.
